When creating courses in Coassemble, there are 3 options you can choose from.
Transform a document
Generate using a prompt
Start from scratch
This article covers the 'Transform a document' method.
What can I expect when transforming my document to a course?
You can expect Coassemble to deliver a course that summarizes and reformats your content to suit the available screen types. For example, lengthy sections of text may be outlined using bullet points or chunked with subheadings. This functionality will not convert your document word-for-word, but aims to make the content easily digestible by learners. If you are new to the world of course creation, our transform functionality is a great starting point for demonstrating how to break your content down into smaller segments. You can then refine your course before rolling it out to your learners.
How do I transform my document to a course?
Step 1: Select “Transform a document”
To start, go to your Coassemble dashboard and select the option to Transform a Document. This will open the document transformation process.
Step 2: Upload your document
Drag and drop your document into the upload area, or click ‘Add file’ to browse and select your file. Once the file is uploaded, it may take a moment to process, and you will see a confirmation message: Document uploaded successfully.
Step 3: Identify your audience’s familiarity with the topic
Next, you’ll need to provide some context about your audience’s familiarity with the subject. Choose one of the following options:
Beginners – This is the first time they are learning about the topic.
Intermediate – They know the basics of the subject.
Advanced – They are already knowledgeable about the subject.
Step 4: Share information about your audience
Here, you can type in specific details about your audience. This helps to adjust the language and tone of the content accordingly. Based on your document, Coassemble will suggest two audience options, or you can manually type your own. This step is optional; if you prefer, you can skip it.
Step 5: Set the language preferences
Our AI Assistant will detect the language of your document and ask if you’d like the course to match this language or select a different one. If you choose a different language, you’ll be prompted with a dropdown menu to make your selection.
Step 6: Choose the tone of the course
Select the tone you want your course to have:
Informal & Conversational – Casual and friendly tone.
Academic & Research-Based – Formal and focused on research.
Motivational & Persuasive – Inspiring and encouraging tone.
This tone will be applied throughout your course content.
Step 7: Determine the course length
Choose how many screens you want your course to contain:
4-6 screens
5-10 screens
10-15 screens
More than 20 screens
For courses with more than 20 screens, we’ll advise breaking it into smaller, more manageable courses based on best practices in learning design.
Step 8: Include images from your document (Optional)
If your document contains images, you can choose to bring them into your course. You will be prompted to select which images you’d like to include. If your document does not have images, you will not view this step.
Step 9: Generate your course outline
Once you’ve set all your preferences, Coassemble will automatically generate a course outline based on the content of your document. You’ll see a list of screens that represent the structure of your course. You’ll also notice a quiz screen at the end; this will include questions based on your content. Here’s how you can refine the outline to fit your needs:
Add or remove screens: You can add new screens by clicking the “+” symbol at the bottom of the course outline. To remove a screen, simply hover over the screen and click the delete icon that appears.
Edit screen titles: Each screen in your outline will have a title that represents the content of that section. To change a title, click on the title text and type in your new title.
Rearrange screens: If you want to adjust the order of the screens, simply click on a screen and drag it to a new position in the outline.
Once you’ve fine-tuned the outline to your satisfaction, click the Create course button to start the course generation process. Coassemble will generate each screen, one by one, based on the outline you’ve set.
Step 10: Watch your course generate
Coassemble will begin generating your course, one screen at a time, with images added where applicable. You’ll be able to watch the process unfold before your eyes.
Step 11: Edit your course
Once the course has been generated, you can dive in and make any final edits. Modify the content, adjust the design, and fine-tune any elements before publishing your course.
