A Quiz is a great way to wrap up your course. It creates an opportunity for your viewers to check they’ve understood the content, and also helps to build engagement. Quizzes are also great to sprinkle throughout your course to make sure your viewers stay engaged as they travel through the content.
Un-scored and scored quizzes
In Coassemble, quizzes can be either scored, or un-scored. If you are on the Free plan, you will have access to un-scored quizzes.
Un-scored quizzes (formative assessments) act as an indicator to your viewers as to how they are doing as they navigate through the course material. It's more like a practice quiz that helps to reinforce knowledge as they progress through a course. Viewers can have as many attempts at a question as they need in order to complete the quiz, and it does not record or report a formal grade against the viewer.
Scored quizzes are summative assessments, that evaluate how much your viewers have understood from the course. They provide the viewer a score, and determine whether or not the viewer passes the course. To access scored quizzes, you will need to upgrade your account to the Solo, Team or Business plans.
Creating your quiz
When choosing to add a Quiz screen, you’ll be asked if you’d like to use our AI Assistant to generate a quiz or start from scratch. Generating a quiz using our AI assistant is a great way to begin, particularly if you have no questions written so far. Our AI Assistant will create an entire quiz either based on your course screens, or based on a prompt that you enter.
If you choose to start from scratch, an empty quiz screen will be created with a start and finish section that can br customized or hidden.
The quiz start section
By default, a start section will be added to your quiz. This is where you can introduce the quiz to your viewers. It has a section for adding a description, and also displays the number of questions in the quiz. If you choose to, this can be hidden by switching it off from the visibility menu on the screen sidebar menu.
The quiz finish section
The quiz finish section is also added by default, but can only be hidden if you have quiz scoring switched off. The quiz finish section is used to congratulate your viewers as they finish the quiz.
Quiz scoring
Quiz scoring is available on all our upgraded, paid plans. Quiz scoring is set to on by default and is displayed on the quiz finish section. It allows you to set a passing grade, and also a number of reattempts that your viewers can take before they fail a quiz.
If a viewer does fail a quiz, it's important to note that they will not be able to complete the course. If you do want your viewers to complete the course, then you should set the quiz to allow for unlimited retries.
With quiz scoring switched on, you can configure 3 distinct finish states for the quiz; passed, retry, and failed. This allows you to provide a custom message depending on whether the viewer has passed the quiz, needs to retry the quiz, or has failed the quiz and has no retries left.
Quiz scores and insights
With quiz scoring turned on, you'll be able see the score of each viewers last attempt at the quiz from the course insights modal.
Adding questions
There are 7 question types available. We recommend a mix of questions to keep viewer engagement high. Each of these question types is explained below:
Multiple choice - Viewer selects ONE answer from a list of options. There can be more than one correct answer, but the viewer is only required to identify one.
Multiple response - Viewer ticks ALL correct answers.
True / False - Viewer decides if a statement is true or false.
Short answer - Viewer is required to type an answer. It needs to be the exact same word or number, so is best used when there is one simple defined answer.
Fill in the blank - Viewer is required to complete a sentence or paragraph by selecting the correct answers from one or more dropdown menus. This is sometimes called a cloze task.
Match corresponding - Viewer matches pairs of text by selecting their counterpart from a dropdown menu.
Match sequence - Viewer is required to place a series of answers into the correct sequence or order.
Question feedback
Question feedback can only be used when quiz scoring is switched off.
For each question you include in an un-scored quiz, you are able to customize the feedback for correct and incorrect responses.
This means if a viewer answers the question correctly, they will receive a feedback popup as shown on the left. If a viewer answers the question incorrectly, they will be presented with the feedback on the right. It is possible to swap the imagery and all text fields, including the text on the button such as ‘Continue’ and ‘Try again’.
