Test API keys

Build and test your integration in the same workspace as your live one, without touching live learners.

• Choose a key type — when you create an API key in the Developer console, choose Production (the default, for your live integration) or Test
• Kept apart from live activity — a Test key only sees the learners it creates, test learners never count toward your learner allowance or your bill, and their completions stay out of your reports and exports
• Test webhooks — choose whether each webhook receives live data, test mode data or both. New webhooks receive live data only (both on Sandbox workspaces), and existing webhooks keep receiving both. Test events carry testMode in the payload and an X-Coassemble-Test-Mode header, so you can tell them apart from live events

Accessibility improvements for learners

A broad round of improvements so more learners can use courses with a keyboard, a screen reader or other assistive technology.

• Keyboard and screen readers — better focus handling, labels and announcements across the course player, quizzes, hotspots, charts, PDFs, collections and embeds
• Readable by default — theme text and accent colours are chosen automatically for clear contrast, content reflows when zoomed in, reduced-motion settings are respected, and the course language is announced correctly
• Back button — the course player now has a visible Back button
• Describe your content — give embeds a title, add a description to charts, and mark images as decorative
• Alt text that follows the image — describe a library image once and its alt text is reused wherever that image appears. AI-written alt text now matches the course language

Chart block

Turn the handful of numbers that make your point into a chart learners can read at a glance. Add a Chart block to any screen in the new builder, or start from one of four new chart layouts.

• Five chart types — column, bar, line, pie and donut.
• Your data, your way — type figures into a simple table or import a CSV, then adjust colours, data labels, legend, grid lines and number format.
• Built from your documents — when you generate a course from a document, charts use only the figures found in your source material.

Admin role

A new role for the people who run your workspace day to day, so running it no longer rests on a single owner account.

• Manage the team and the workspace — admins can manage members, workspace settings, courses and integrations.
• Owner-only safeguards — billing, deleting the workspace and transferring ownership stay with the owner.
• More than one admin — give the role to as many people as you need.

Workspace notification controls

Decide once, for the whole team, how many course activity emails everyone receives.

• Course started and course completed — for each, choose every time, the first time only, or off.
• Applies to everyone — members can still choose fewer emails than you allow, but not more.
• Learners are unaffected — the emails that give them access to a course are separate.

Courses generated to learning-design rules

Courses built from a prompt, or adapted from a document, now follow learning-design rules while they are being written, so there is less to fix when you open them.

• Every outcome is checked — each learning outcome gets a knowledge check, placed after the screens that teach it.
• Questions test what was taught — each question is checked against the content before it and the level of thinking its outcome asks for.
• A clear start and finish — courses open with a concrete situation, story or question, and close with what the learner can now do.
• Knowledge checks by default — included unless you choose otherwise, and your Assessment choice is always respected.
• Builds pick up where they left off — an interrupted build resumes by itself or offers Retry, instead of starting again.

Custom video thumbnails

• Choose the cover image for any uploaded video, instead of the automatic frame.

For Embed and API customers

• Client caps — turn per-client caps on or off for your workspace, in the developer console or with clientCapsEnabled on the client-defaults endpoints.
• Usage endpoints — allowance reads now return the reset date, how often each allowance resets and what happens when it is reached. The topUp field is no longer returned.
• Blank identifiers — tracking, user and analytics requests with a blank identifier are refused, and a visit with no identifier counts as anonymous.
• Clearer errors — a request that fails validation names the fields that need fixing.

• Quizzes — cleaner question styling for learners, with the question counter removed and tidier fill-in-the-blank and match questions

Try your courses in the new builder

Move your Classic courses into the new builder at your own pace. Try a course first to see exactly how it carries over, keep working on it, and go back to Classic at any time until you choose to migrate.

• Try before you commit — see which screens carry over as they are and which change, with a plain-English note for each, before anything is final.
• Go back any time — return to Classic and your course is exactly as you left it. Learners keep seeing the published version, with the same share link and learner records.
• Migrate in bulk — select several Classic courses from your dashboard or a folder and migrate them together. Courses that need your attention are listed first, and a notification keeps track of progress if you close the window.
• Your content comes with you — layouts, covers, scored and unscored quizzes, every question type, and the images, tables and audio inside your text all carry across. Untitled screens take their name from their first line of text.
• For Embed and API customers — turn on migration inside embedded course editors, or migrate courses through the API, with webhooks for progress and completion, a readable reason for any screen that changes, and up to 50 courses per request.

Course length over the API

Read a course's estimated completion time straight from the course endpoints, so the length your authors set on the course cover can feed reporting in your own platform.

Bigger SCORM conversions

• Up to 1GB — convert SCORM packages up to 1GB into courses, with a heads-up when a large upload will take a few minutes.
• Rise labelled graphics — now import as hotspot blocks, with each marker in place.
• More reliable — conversions retry if the connection drops, and connection problems explain what went wrong.

Builder improvements

• Slideshows — choose Fit or Fill for each slide, crop images, and add a blurred image background.
• Background overlay — adjust how strongly a background image is darkened behind your text.
• Unscored quizzes — turn scoring off for any quiz.
• Upload progress — see progress when creating a course from a file, and retry an upload that fails.
• Mobile editor — the screen now fills the canvas, with the previous and next arrows beside it.

Multiple API keys

Workspaces are no longer limited to a single API key.

• Name a key per integration, so it's clear what each one is for
• Revoke individually — retire one integration's key without disturbing the others

Hotspot blocks — Builder 2 is now complete

Hotspots were the last block missing from Builder 2. With them in place, everything you could build in the original builder can now be built in the new one, which clears the way for work on moving existing courses across.

Multiple people can now work in the same course at the same time and see each other as they go.

• See who's here — collaborator avatars appear on dashboard course cards, the course overview, individual screen cards, and on the blocks someone is actively editing

Change to Embed agent tokens

If you mint Embed agent tokens through POST /agent/auth, two defaults have changed. Both make the safe option the default, and both can still be overridden per token.

• Tokens now last 4 hours by default, down from 30 days. Pass expiresIn if you need longer
• Tokens are now read-only by default. Pass readonly: false explicitly if the token needs write access
• Each token now carries a unique identifier, so an individual token can be identified rather than only the whole signing secret

Embed customers can now work with a single screen rather than a whole course. Two new embeddable types: Screen Builder, which puts the Builder 2 screen editor inside your own application, and Screen Player, which renders one screen for a learner.

• Start from a layout — adding a screen opens the layout picker, so authors choose a design and begin with placeholder content already in place
• Build your own picker instead — list the available layouts and create a screen directly, if you'd rather design the experience yourself

Switch the editor to mobile and control how a screen stacks on a phone, separately from the desktop design.

• Hide blocks on mobile — leave out anything that doesn't earn its space on a small screen

• Sensible image heights — images keep the shape you cropped rather than stretching to full phone width, and can be resized from the bottom edge

Reposition images

Choose which part of an image shows inside a block, instead of only fitting or filling it.

• Crop, pan and zoom — drag to reposition, zoom up to 3×, with the rest of the image shown faded so you can see what's outside the frame
• Works inside cards too — available for images in process, flashcards and slideshow blocks
• Existing courses are untouched — images already placed look exactly as they did

Custom fonts on headings and paragraphs

Pick a font outside your theme's set directly from the heading and paragraph toolbars, with weights grouped into their own menu and a one-click reset back to the theme font.

v1.8.3 launches Embeddables — a new way to drop Coassemble learning experiences, authoring tools and analytics dashboards directly into your own apps and platforms using signed-URL iframes, backed by workspace-level API keys and a new developer documentation site. Alongside Embeddables, image generation moves out of beta on a new model with a manual trigger, AI narration adds two new voice locales, and a wave of authoring, video and translation improvements ship. The release also wraps in the hotfixes that have gone to production since v1.8.2.

New Features

Embeddables

Coassemble Embeddables go live in v1.8.3 as a fully supported, customer-facing capability. Customers can drop Coassemble learning experiences, authoring tools and analytics dashboards directly into their own apps and platforms using signed-URL iframes. A new developer documentation site walks through every embeddable component end to end, with live code examples. Availability of individual embeddables varies by plan — see the developer docs for the current plan matrix.

A standout in this release: Collections are now first-class in Headless for the first time. Until now, Headless only supported courses. v1.8.3 introduces a full Collection REST API (GET /collections, GET /collections/{id}, POST /collection, DELETE /collection/{id}, POST /collection/{id}/restore) and a full set of Collection embeddables — Player, Builder, List, Card and Analytics — so integrations can programmatically create, manage and embed collections of courses end to end.

Image generation: now manual, powered by Gemini Flash 2.5

AI image generation is moving out of beta with an upgraded model — Gemini Flash 2.5, replacing Imagen (which Google is sunsetting). Image generation is now triggered on demand instead of running automatically, giving authors full control over when images are created and tokens are used.

• Manual generation — images are no longer auto-generated when creating courses from a prompt, transforming documents, or generating screens
• Monthly token allowance — a monthly image generation allowance is now in effect on some plans, with a clear usage indicator in the AI image modal. Existing headless customers are not affected

New narration voices

• Added French (Canada) and Spanish (Mexico) voices to AI narration, expanding language coverage for global teams

More reliable narration

• Categorised publish errors — the publish modal now groups narration errors with targeted retry and edit actions, so authors know exactly what to do next
• Smarter retries — narration generation now retries on transient Google TTS timeouts and 503s, with a long-text fallback for big scripts
• Automatic re-generation triggers — adding, removing or altering questions now correctly flags narrations for regeneration
• Cleaner script handling — auto narration is preserved when a custom script is absent, and the narration modal's language is now read-only as intended
