Course creation FAQ
The questions people ask most while building a Coassemble course, answered for both the new builder and Classic.
Is there a limit on the number of courses I can create?
There is no limit on the number of courses you can create.
Are certificates available?
Coassemble does not currently offer certificates.
Can I add a screen where my learners or audience can write a reflection?
There's no dedicated block for open-ended learner reflections, and short answer question blocks are auto-marked against an expected answer rather than collecting free writing. For reflections, use an Embed block to bring in a tool like Google Forms or Typeform. These are purpose-built for collecting responses, they embed directly into the screen, and you keep control over the data you collect.
Can I combine courses that I have made?
Combining courses is a manual process. You'll need to copy the content from one course and rebuild those screens in the other course.
Can I create a quiz outside of a course?
Assessment lives inside a course. A scored quiz is its own section within a course, opening with a cover screen and ending with a results screen, and a single question block on an ordinary screen is an unscored knowledge check.
You can still deliver one on its own. With the screen embeddables, a standalone quiz embeds as a set, with scoring, retakes and results, so a quiz can sit inside your own product as a knowledge check without a whole course wrapped around it. The quiz start, completion, answers and scores are sent to your application, so you can react to the result however you need to.
Can I download my course?
Because Coassemble courses are interactive, cloud-based experiences, they are designed to deliver dynamic content, including quizzes, multimedia, and engagement features that can't be fully captured in a static document format. As a result, downloading a course as a PDF or other document file isn't available.
Can I have a screen with 2 columns? In 1 column I have the text, and in the other I put a video?
Yes. Screens are built from blocks arranged on a six column grid, so you can set a text block and a video block side by side and choose how wide each one is. The Content layouts include Title + 2 columns and Title + 3 columns as starting points. Screens stay mobile responsive, and you can reorder how blocks stack on a narrow screen or hide one from mobile entirely.
In a Classic course, a screen holds what its screen type allows, so a two column arrangement isn't available there.
Can I move a course to another workspace?
Yes, by duplicating it into the workspace you want it in:
- On your dashboard, select the three dots on the course card.
- Choose Duplicate.
- Under Select a workspace, pick the workspace you want the copy to go to.
- Select Duplicate course.
You need to be a member of both workspaces. The picker only lists workspaces you can create courses in, so if the one you want isn't showing, you'll need access to it first.
This creates a copy, so the original course stays where it is.
Can I use translations?
Yes. Open Languages at the top of a course, add a translation, and Coassemble generates it for you to edit. Learners get the language that matches their browser, falling back to your default. You can also generate narration for a translation so learners hear it in their language.
Can we add audio?
Yes, two ways. Add an Audio block to a screen and upload an audio file such as .mp3, .wav or .ogg. Or generate narration, which produces spoken audio from your screen content in a range of voices.
In a Classic course, you'll find audio through the speaker icon in the text editor toolbar.
Can you build a branching scenario?
Not currently. There's no branching or conditional path, so every learner moves through the same sequence of screens.
Do I need to include a title for all screens?
No. A heading block isn't required, so a screen can go without one.
It's worth having on any screen with real content though. The heading block is the screen title, and it gives assistive technology the structure it relies on to navigate the screen. The agent's Review tab flags a screen that carries body text with no heading on it for that reason.
In a Classic course you can hide the title using the visibility icon on the right-hand side of the screen, or leave it blank so it doesn't appear in the learner's view.
Can I host a document in a course for learners to download?
Yes. Add a Document block to a screen and upload your file. The document is hosted on our servers and a learner can read it on the screen or download a copy. Reference material like this often works well at the start or the end of a course.
In a Classic course, use the Document screen for the same thing.
How do I show my own logo instead of the Coassemble one?
Upload your logo in the Brand kit and apply your theme to the course. If you can't see that option in your workspace, talk to the Coassemble team about your setup.
How do I save my course content while I am creating my course?
Coassemble automatically saves your work as you create your course, so you never have to worry about losing progress.
Is it possible to change the font of my courses for branding purposes?
Yes, in two places. Set the heading and body fonts in the theme you apply to the course, which you configure in your Brand kit, including custom font files you upload. You can also set a font on an individual heading or paragraph from its toolbar in the course builder, outside the theme's set, with a one-click reset back to the theme font.
Is there an undo button?
There aren't Undo and Redo buttons in the builder, but the keyboard shortcuts work for most actions while you're editing:
- Mac: Press Command (⌘) + Z to undo, or Command (⌘) + Shift + Z to redo.
- Windows: Press Ctrl + Z to undo, or Ctrl + Y (or Ctrl + Shift + Z) to redo.
Keep in mind that undo and redo only apply to your current editing session. If you refresh the page, leave the course, or close your browser, your undo history is cleared.
Refined text has its own separate control. When you use a refine button, you'll see the updated text with a choice of Keep or Undo. Choose Keep and your content is updated, or Undo to go back to your original wording. Once you select Keep, you can't then decide to Undo.
Do I need to crop my images before I add them?
No. There are no strict size or aspect-ratio rules. Once an image is on a screen you can reposition it inside its block: drag to choose which part shows and zoom in up to 3x, with the rest of the image shown faded so you can see what's outside the frame. That works inside process, flashcard and slideshow cards too.
What are the file size limits for the content I upload?
When creating a course using AI, there is a 50MB file size limit for document transformation. There's no limit on how many screens a course can hold: keep each screen to one clear idea and let the length follow the content, using sections to chapter a long course rather than splitting it up. For video, we suggest 6 minutes or less, as research shows this is where learners drop off from viewing. Be mindful of image and embedded file sizes too, as these affect how quickly a course loads for your learners.
What is the ideal file size or ratio for uploading my logo?
We recommend using a logo with a 1:1 ratio. While we don't have specific recommendations on size, using your logo in SVG format is the best option, as size will make no difference.
Where can I add videos to my course?
Add a Video block to any screen. You can upload a file or paste a link from a platform like YouTube or Vimeo. Set the block to landscape or portrait, so footage shot on a phone sits in a vertical frame instead of being letterboxed into a wide one. Captions are available either way. On an uploaded video, open the Video menu, choose Captions, pick the language your captions are in and upload an SRT or WebVTT file. Video hosted on YouTube or Vimeo carries the captions set on those platforms.
Because video is a block, it can sit alongside other content on the same screen, and you choose how wide it sits on the grid.
In a Classic course, video goes on a Video screen, and it can't be placed in an image container on another screen or added inline in text.
Does Coassemble generate captions for my video?
No. Captions come from you, as a file you upload. Add them to a video you have uploaded by opening the Video menu, choosing Captions, picking the language and uploading an SRT or WebVTT file. Both SRT (.srt) and WebVTT (.vtt) work, and both are standard exports from captioning tools and transcription services. AI narration is different: where you generate narration from screen content, it produces its own closed captions that you can review before publishing.
What does the "Regenerate" button do when creating a course outline?
Regenerate is part of Classic AI course creation. It creates a new version of the course outline with different content, which is useful when the first attempt isn't quite right but is heading in the right direction. All of the screen titles update to reflect the new content.
When you build with the agent instead, you review a summary of your choices before it starts, and you can edit any answer at that point. Once the course exists, you ask the agent for the changes you want rather than regenerating the whole thing.
