Developer role
The workspace role for the engineers building on the Coassemble API, and what it can and cannot reach.
How do I give someone API access without giving them access to my courses?
Assign them the Developer role. A developer reaches the Developer area and your API keys but not the course builder, so the engineers wiring Coassemble into your product never touch the courses your team is writing.
To invite a new developer, open Settings, select Members, click Invite member, and choose Developer under Role before you send the invite. To move someone who is already a creator, select the three dots next to them in Members and choose Make developer.
What can a developer do?
A developer works in the Developer area of your workspace. From there they can:
- Get started. The How to start guide on the Overview tab walks them through creating a key, copying a brief for an AI assistant, or cloning a working example, and ticks off each step as their integration makes its calls.
- Watch API traffic. A searchable log of every call made against your API keys, showing the time, the method and path, the status code, the duration, the client identifier and the request ID. It filters by time range, status, path and client identifier, so a single customer's traffic can be looked at on its own, and exports as CSV.
- Manage webhooks. Register and edit endpoints, pick up signing secrets, and see the delivery history for each one. Failed deliveries can be replayed, either one row at a time or in bulk after an outage on your side.
- Track usage. Narration tokens and images against your workspace's monthly AI allowance, plus each client's creators, narration, images and standing.
- Create and revoke API keys. Keys are named, and each one shows a created date, a last used date, and whether it is active or revoked. Revoking one key leaves the others working.
A developer cannot open the course builder, create or edit courses, or invite other people to the workspace. Changing the default usage caps for new clients in the Developer area is also left to workspace Owners.
How is a developer different from a creator?
| Can they | Developer | Creator |
|---|---|---|
| Open the Developer area | Yes | No |
| Create and revoke API keys | Yes | No |
| Open the course builder | No | Yes |
| Create, edit and share courses | No | Yes |
Each member has one role, so someone can't be a developer and a creator at the same time.
Does adding a developer change my creator count?
No. A developer is not a course creator, so adding one does not change the number of creators in your workspace.
