The four ways to add an image to a Coassemble course, and how to control the part of the image that shows.
Add images by uploading your own, reusing one from your image library, searching stock photography or GIPHY, or generating a custom image with AI.
You can add an image to any screen that supports one. There are no strict size or aspect-ratio rules, and Coassemble handles the sizing, so an image will look right without any preparation. When you want a specific part of an image to show, you can reposition it inside its block.
Adding an image
When you add or replace an image, you can upload your own, choose one from your image library, search stock photography or GIPHY, or generate one with AI.
Upload an image
- On a screen that supports an image, select Add an image (or select an existing image and choose Replace image).
- Choose Upload.
- Drag and drop a file, or browse your device to select one.
- The image is added and saved to your image library for reuse.
Search stock photography or GIPHY
In the image picker, search Pexels for stock photos or GIPHY for GIFs, then select one to add it to your screen.
Generate an image with AI
Choose Generate, describe the image you want, then pick a style (Auto, Photo, Cinematic, Drawing, Vector, or Painting) and an aspect ratio (Square, Landscape, or Portrait). You'll get four options to choose from, and you can refine your description and try again. Generated images take the topic of the course into account, not just the screen they sit on. They're saved to your image library so you can reuse them.
Display options
Once an image is added, you can change how it sits on the screen:
- Fill (the default): scales the image to fill its container while keeping the aspect ratio.
- Fit: scales the image so the whole thing is visible, useful when every part matters.
- Background image: behaves like Fit, but your text sits on top, often with a gentle overlay so the text stays readable.
Reposition an image
Select the image and drag to choose which part shows inside the block. You can zoom up to 3x, and the rest of the image is shown faded so you can see what sits outside the frame. This works for images inside process, flashcard and slideshow cards as well as standalone image blocks.
On mobile, an image keeps the shape you set rather than stretching to the full width of the phone, and you can resize it from the bottom edge.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to crop or resize my images before uploading?
No. There are no strict size or aspect-ratio requirements, and Coassemble resizes images to fit responsively. If you want a particular part of an image to show, reposition it inside the block after you add it.
Where do AI-generated images go?
They're saved to your image library, just like uploaded images, so you can reuse them across courses.
What image sources can I use?
